CHIME has named three new members to its Board of Trustees: Shafiq Rab, MD, VP and CIO, Hackensack University Medical Center; Cindy Peterson, VP and CIO, Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital; and Marc Chasin, MD, VP and CIO, St. Luke’s Health System.
“We had an incredible slate of candidates this year, resulting in an extremely close election,” said CHIME Board Chair Marc Probst. “As our three newly-elected trustees have demonstrated at their own organizations, CIOs must be strategic partners in improving care across the continuum. The three of them bring a diverse set of experiences that will be valuable as the board continues to fulfill CHIME’s vision statement – Exceptional Leaders Transforming Healthcare.”
The new board members will serve three-year terms starting January 1, 2017.
At Hackensack, Rab has been a champion of innovation, leading efforts to integrate mobile health applications like Apple HealthKit with the EHR, and launching multiple real-time communication systems to provide patients and clinicians with better access to health information. In 2015, Rab was named Innovator of the Year by CHIME.

Cindy Peterson
Peterson, who has nearly 30 years of health IT experience, has led the 238-bed Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital through a clinical transformation. Through her participation in CHIME’s CIO Fall Forum planning committee, as well as the Association for Executives in Healthcare Information Applications and the Association for Executives in Healthcare Information Technology, Peterson is working to advance the role of the CIO and other IT leaders.

Marc Chasin, MD
Throughout his career, Chasin has championed the use of health IT to improve patient care. Following his residency, he advanced the use of EHRs and e-prescribing at clinics and hospitals in New York. At St. Luke’s, a 7-hospital system based in Idaho, Chasin oversaw implementation of a system-wide EHR.
CHIME also announced that Carina Edwards, senior VP of customer experience at Imprivata, was elected to the CHIME Foundation board of directors. She will serve a four-year term starting January 1, 2017.
The current CHIME board of trustees elected officers for the 2018 board include Cletis Earle, VP and CIO, Kaleida Health, chair; Theresa Meadows, SVP and CIO, Cook Children’s Health Care System, treasurer; and Donna Roach, CIO at Via Christi Health-Ascension Information Services, secretary.
