“It’s all about the patient.”
We’ve heard this statement from CIOs and other health IT leaders in the past, but in 2017, it was a theme that seemed to take center stage. From the digital health revolution that’s changing the way patients engage in their health, to the seemingly never-ending saga revolving around the Affordable Care Act, it’s been a banner year for patients.
Of course a number of other topics have dominated the headlines, including the “mega-merger” trend among both health systems and payers that could dramatically change the landscape, ransomware and other incidents that have rocked hospitals, and the growing push to making innovation a priority. And weaved into all of this is leadership — how all of these changes will impact the CIO’s role, what leaders should be doing to grow the next generation, and the need for diversity across all positions.
