CHIME has surpassed the 100 mark in number of credentialed individuals since its CHCIO program launched in July 2009.
Following its last examination in April, a total of 109 CHIME members and CHIME Affiliate program participants have now earned the CHCIO and CHCIO-Eligible designation.
CHCIO status “represents achievement of the highest standard of professional development for healthcare CIOs,” and is the only credentialing program that distinguishes healthcare IT executives from others in the industry, according to the organization. CHIME members who have been in a CIO or equivalent position for at least three years, pass the 125-question CHCIO examination, and collect 25 Continuing Education Units (CEUs) are eligible to become certified. “CHCIOs must be committed to ongoing professional development,” and undergo recertification every three years, CHIME states.
In October, the CHCIO Program will release a second version of the exam. The next CHCIO Examination is scheduled for Tuesday, Oct. 25 in San Antonio, in conjunction with the CHIME11 Fall CIO Forum.
CHIME also offers a program to develop future industry leaders and, as such, awards the designation: CHCIO-Eligible. This status is awarded to those candidates who meet all of the program requirements but lack the requisite number of years of experience as a CIO.
