Rick Lang, VP & CIO, Doylestown Hospital

Just over a month ago, 208-bed Doylestown Memorial Hospital got some big league attention as it was tagged by HIMSS Analytics with Stage 6 honors. But with the organization opening a new emergency department, CIO Rick Lang has little time to stop and celebrate. Lang and his team are hard at work rolling out NextGen to local docs — taking advantage of the Stark relaxations — and integrating those physicians into the hospital’s core Meditech environment. To learn more about how Lang has accomplished so much in the community hospital setting, healthsystemCIO.com editor Anthony Guerra recently caught up with the Pennsylvania-based CIO.

Chapter 1 (9:46) Topics Covered — Interesting history of Doylestown Community Hospital; Rick’s IT shop; Stark factor; main vendors used; Meditech 6.0; Meditech capacity challenges; Difficulty of implementing clinical systems quickly; Change management best practices
Chapter 2 (11:13) Topics Covered — Change/project management; Setting expectations with finance; the Meaningful Use bar; Government’s comment process; Specific MU Concerns
Chapter 3 (10:58) Topics Covered — Discussion of specific MU measures (CPOE vs eMAR); PHRs; opening up a new ED; role of CIO in change management/implementations: to lead or to follow?
